Apple has just released the first public beta of iOS 18. Some users have already started using this new operating system, which will come with the iPhone 16. The new iOS version has several new features, including options to make it more customizable. Users can now move app icons wherever they want, and there’s a hidden feature that lets them remove app names and make the icons bigger. This creates a clean, modern home screen without any text. Here’s how you can try this feature and see if you like the new look.
How To Hide App Name On iOS 18 (Based On Public Beta)
To hide the app names, you need to access iOS 18’s public beta. First, register on beta.apple.com. Then, go to Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates to find the beta update. After downloading and installing the iOS 18 public beta, follow the steps below.
- Tap and hold on to an empty space on your home screen.
- Select the Edit button at the top left and select the Customize option.
- In the menu that appears at the bottom, select “Large.” As soon as you select the option, the app icons will grow in size, removing the names that are usually located at their bottom.
- If you don’t like the icons’ appearance, you can always select the “Small” option in the menu to restore the original layout.
- While we’re at it, you can also change the look of your app icons by switching to the “Dark” theme.
- There’s a “Tinted” option that removes all the colors from the home screen except one, which becomes the predominant theme (like how Android matches the UI elements with the selected color via Material You). You can select the shade and its intensity using the two sliders at the bottom.
- If you wish to switch between Light and Dark-themed app icons with time, you can select “Automatic.” It switches between the two modes based on the time of the day, similar to how scheduled dark mode works on iPhones.
It is important to mention that this is how you can customize your home screen to remove the app names in iOS 18 public beta. There is a possibility that the steps could change when the operating system goes public. If there’s a change in the process, we’ll update this article.
